# Keyboard shortcuts

> Editor shortcuts, slash commands and the keys for presentation mode, presenter view and the audience screen.

In the tables, **Ctrl** applies to Windows and Linux; on a Mac, use **Cmd** instead, except where the table says otherwise. **Alt** is **Option** on a Mac.

## Editor

### Suggestions

The editor suggests options automatically as you type, depending on where the cursor is:

| Where you type | What shows up |
| --- | --- |
| `/` at the start of a line | [Slash commands](#slash-commands): ready-made slide and block templates. |
| `::: ` | Container blocks and the document's components, with a template to fill in. |
| `:: ` | Single-line blocks (`icon`, `spacer`, `divider`) and components. |
| `:: icon ` | Icon names. |
| `@` at the start of a line | Definitions: `@title`, `@theme`, `@color` and the others. |
| Inside `{` | Attribute names. |
| After `.` inside `{` | Styles and color tokens. |
| After `key=` inside `{` | Attribute values: colors, fonts, scales and options. |

| Action | Shortcut |
| --- | --- |
| Open suggestions manually | **Ctrl+Space**, on a Mac too (on a Mac, also **Option+`** and **Option+I**) |
| Move through the list | **↑** / **↓**, **Page Up** / **Page Down** |
| Accept the suggestion | **Enter** |
| Close the list | **Esc** |

### Template fields

Slash commands and block suggestions insert a template with fields to fill in, such as the title and the text.

| Action | Shortcut |
| --- | --- |
| Go to the next field | **Tab** |
| Go back to the previous field | **Shift+Tab** |
| Leave the fields | **Esc** |

### Editing

| Action | Shortcut |
| --- | --- |
| Undo | **Ctrl+Z** |
| Redo | **Ctrl+Y** (on Linux, also **Ctrl+Shift+Z**; on a Mac, **Cmd+Shift+Z**) |
| Increase or decrease indentation | **Tab** / **Shift+Tab**, or **Ctrl+]** / **Ctrl+[** |
| Move the line up or down | **Alt+↑** / **Alt+↓** |
| Duplicate the line up or down | **Shift+Alt+↑** / **Shift+Alt+↓** |
| Delete the line | **Ctrl+Shift+K** |
| Insert a blank line below | **Ctrl+Enter** |
| Select the line | **Alt+L** (on a Mac, **Ctrl+L**, with the Control key) |
| Add a cursor above or below | **Ctrl+Alt+↑** / **Ctrl+Alt+↓** |

When you type `{`, `[`, `(` or `"`, the editor closes the pair automatically; **Backspace** right after deletes both. Pasting (**Ctrl+V**) or dragging an image into the editor uploads it to the project and inserts the `asset:` reference into the text.

In the preview, click any element to move the cursor to the matching line in the editor.

### Slash commands

Type `/` at the start of a line and pick a template. Command names follow the interface language.

| Command | Inserts |
| --- | --- |
| `/slide` | New slide, with a `---` separator and a heading. |
| `/text-and-image` | Two columns: text and image. |
| `/cards` | Three cards in a grid. |
| `/quote` | Quote with author. |
| `/code` | Code block. |
| `/table` | Table. |
| `/image` | Image with attributes. |
| `/component` | Definition of a reusable component. |

## Presentation mode

Presentation mode opens in full screen. Reveal steps count as steps: moving forward shows the next step and, when there are no more steps, the next slide.

| Action | Keys |
| --- | --- |
| Forward | **→**, **↓**, **Space**, **Page Down** or **Enter** |
| Back | **←**, **↑**, **Page Up** or **Backspace** |
| Go to the first slide | **Home** |
| Go to the last slide | **End** |
| Show or hide the notes | **N** |
| Exit | **Esc** |

You can also navigate with the mouse: a click on the left third of the screen goes back, and anywhere else goes forward.

## Presenter view

Presenter view shows the current slide, the next one, the notes and the timer. The keys control the presentation and the audience screen at the same time.

| Exit presenter view | **Esc** |

The timer is paused, resumed and reset with the buttons at the top of the screen, and clicking a thumbnail in the bottom strip jumps straight to that slide. See [Presenting](/docs/en/guides/presenting/).

## Audience screen

The audience screen is the window opened from presenter view, to show on the projector or another monitor.

| Action | Keys |
| --- | --- |
| Forward | **→**, **↓**, **Space**, **Page Down** or **Enter** |
| Back | **←**, **↑**, **Page Up** or **Backspace** |
| Leave full screen | **Esc** |
| Enter full screen | Double-click |

Navigation keys on the audience screen are sent to the presenter, so both windows stay on the same slide.
